Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress Central Working Committee meeting, which began on July 16, concluded late Monday night, with party President Sher Bahadur Deuba officially announcing its closure.
During his concluding remarks, Deuba reaffirmed the strength of the ruling coalition between the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, stating that the alliance is expected to last its full term.
“I believe that this coalition will last for the entire period,” said Deuba, adding, “The emergence of problems between two major parties is not unusual. Such issues can be resolved through dialogue.”
Constitution Amendment Plans
President Deuba also addressed the ongoing conversation around constitutional amendments, suggesting that the process would soon be initiated. He mentioned that there were limited issues to resolve and highlighted the proposal to amend the role of the Vice President to allow chairing the National Assembly.
“The issue of amending the constitution has been raised. There’s a proposal regarding the Vice President’s role. The constitution is already inclusive and representative. Any remaining concerns can be resolved through discussions with the UML,” he said.
Remarks on Party Transparency
Reflecting on the lengthy duration of the recent meeting, Deuba noted its unusual span and emphasized that future party meetings will be live-streamed for transparency.
“This time’s meeting lasted longer than expected. From next time, we will make it live,” he stated.
So far, only one meeting of the Nepali Congress has been live broadcast, and no other political parties in Nepal have implemented live streaming of their internal party meetings. This remark signals a potential shift toward more transparent political processes within the party.
